1st SYMPOSIUM ON PUBLIC FESTIVITIES: WHAT MAKES THEM GO?
A public festival is not too difficult to set up as a one-time event. What is difficult is maintaining it throughout the following years after the initial surge of creative energy has ebbed. All public events are dependent on a more or less large number of dedicated individuals, who are willing to invest their energy and time in its organization and participation. Sometimes, the momentum does not take hold and festivities wither away. Others thrive. At times, even traditional festivals with devoted participants may find it difficult to attract the young generation.
We would, therefore, be very interested in learning the motivations of the various groups taking part in your festivities. What drives the organizers? What brings back the people who have already attended? How do you recruit new participants/organizers? In other words, what makes the festivities go?
Symposium on public festivities is primarily set up as a platform to bring together organizers of such events with academics. The topic has been chosen so as to enable an exchange of experience among organizers, yet also be relevant for interested researchers. It is going to be a closed event for invited participants only and will directly precede the Velvet Carnival 2019 in Prague. We are all very much looking forward to seeing you in Prague./* GALLERY */ ?>
