Life and the world are constantly changing, and so are we. Kampus Hybernská was founded in 2017 as a creative hub that provides space for both emerging and established artists. Starting next year, it will offer expanded support to those just beginning their journey on the art scene.
The first exhibition in HYB4 Galerie took place during Diversity Week in a smaller space next to the café (today's C.0 Galerie space). Later, the public was also granted access to spaces in building A, which previously served as aristocratic apartments or StB interrogation rooms. These are the very spaces that will undergo a major transformation starting in January.
The site that hosted exhibitions by Milan Knížák, Milan Kunc, Lenka Tyrpeklová, and Kamila Ženatá in recent years will be converted into studios artists. Exhibitions will continue to be held in the C.0 HYB4 Gallery, which will also undergo minor renovations.
“We started building this space in 2017, and few believed it would become one of the most sought-after venues for presenting contemporary art in Prague,” explains curator and head of HYB4 Galerie, Filip Kazda.
In the coming year, we want to continue focusing on contemporary art while supporting emerging artists, who will be the primary focus of the newly created HYB4 Art Studios in Building A. The open call is open students and graduates of art schools as well as artist without artistic education.
“The goal is to create an artistic community that will inspire one another and expand the Kampus Hybernská collective,” says Ema Pospíšilová, Director of Kampus Hybernská, z. ú.
The curators of HYB4 Galerie will continue to organize accompanying programs for exhibitions, such as the successful lectures focused on psychotherapeutic theory and practice in connection with art.
“Creating a public gallery in a community space where people can not only come to see works of art but also learn is an incredible amount of work. You have to take it step by step and persistently build its brand. This also includes caring for artists and daily networking, which is very important to us. A gallery doesn't have to be a VIP place for the elite. We want HYB4 Galerie to be a place where different people can meet and create a shared vision of what cultural life is,” curator Michal Štochl stated previously.
Over the past year, the HYB4 Galerie curators have prepared a number of original projects, whether it was the major retrospective exhibition of Vladimír Skrepl, the unique exhibition Creation-Myth-Art connecting ancient Egyptian texts with contemporary visual art, or an installation combining three artistic approaches in one space titled TO/IT.
