A new exhibition at the C.0 HYB4 Galerie presents the work of Jan Stolín

Exhibition The Gloss of the Night works with the white, dematerialized, and dimensionless space of the gallery, evoking a mental contrast between brightness and darkness. These extreme sensations are two sides of the same coin: one expressed by the shimmering surface of golden drapery that defies capture, the other marked by a black underpainting and black pigment that flakes off the wall and spreads across the floor.

"The contradictory positions of Jan Stolín's latest exhibition, titled The Gloss of the Night, explore liminal sensory and mental transitions. They allow incompatible states—the artificial and the raw, the blurred and the precise—to resonate. Each is represented by a different technique: on one hand, a depersonalized, artificial digital print that enlarges detail to the limit of legibility; on the other, a large-scale drawing executed directly on the bare walls, conceived as a physical act," wrote the exhibition's curator, Karel Srp.

In his digital prints, the artist approaches matter so closely that he strips it of its weight, while in his drawings, he allows it expansive freedom. If a visitor to The Gloss of thw Night could perceive both experiences at once, they would find that midnight enters at noon and that at midnight, a window opens into the clear day. Stolín has avoided both dawn and dusk; the transitions between times of day have vanished. 

The exhibition at the C.0 HYB4 Galerie begins on Friday, November 21, and runs until Saturday, January 24, 2026. Access to the gallery is through Kavárna Kampus, and it is open every day except Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Jan Stolín (*1966) is a visual artist and educator at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec. He is known for his work with space, light, and material.
