Starting September 11, the HYB4 Gallery at Kampus Hybernská will present a new exhibition by Vladimír Houdek titled The Third Landscape. Curated by Filip Kazda, the exhibition explores the boundary between reality and imagination. During Prague Art Week, from September 24 to 27, the gallery will open the studios of Hong Kong residents Jive Lau Ho-Fai and Mari Liew Yu-Lin and offer a guided tour of Houdek’s exhibition. The start of the new semester on October 1 will feature the HYB4 Art Studios Open House, and in November, the gallery program will be complemented by a new exhibition by Martina Zet.
The central motif of the exhibition The Third Landscape by Vladimír Houdek is a lonely wanderer with a head transformed into a cosmic body, moving between the past, the present, and visions of the future. Houdek describes this figure as his parallel self, letting it traverse a landscape that, in his painting, becomes a space of inner experience, memory, and the shifting relationship between humanity and the world around us. The Third Landscape thus opens a space between reality and imagination, finitude and infinity.
Houdek’s painting has long engaged in a dialogue with the history of modernism. He is not afraid to confront classical painting principles with contemporary visual thinking to seek out new pictorial situations. For Houdek, the act of painting is inseparable from a conscious relationship with art history, which he views not as a closed set of meanings, but as a living space open to new interpretations.
The starting point for the new series is the painting The Chasseur in the Forest (1814) by Caspar David Friedrich. The solitary figure in the midst of a monumental landscape is not a symbol of romantic loneliness here, but an image of human existence. The landscape absorbs the individual into its own order and chaos, reminding us that human presence is always just one layer of a much larger whole.
"Color here does not merely create an environment; it becomes a carrier of emotion, time, and inner state. It accompanies both the figure and the viewer at the moment when the painting becomes a place of transformation," describes curator Filip Kazda.
Vladimír Houdek (born 1984 in Nové Město na Moravě) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, in the painting studio of Vladimír Skrepl. In 2010, he received the Critics' Prize for Young Painting, and two years later, the Jindřich Chalupecký Award. His solo exhibitions include shows at Museum Kampa, Krinzinger Projekte in Vienna, Berlínský model in Prague, and Galerie Magnus Art in Prague. He is represented by Polansky Gallery in Prague and Galerie Krinzinger in Vienna, and he lives and works in Prague.

Prague Art Week at HYB4 Gallery
From September 24 to 27, HYB4 Gallery will be part of the Prague Art Weekfestival.
Concurrent with Houdek's exhibition The Third Landscape Hong Kong artists will open their studios to the public Jive Lau Ho-Fai and Mari Liew Yu-Lin, who are in residence at Kampus Hybernská from mid-September to the end of October 2026 in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Hong Kong and Macau. Jive Lau Ho-Fai specializes in the traditional Hong Kong craft of neon sign making. Mari Liew Yu-Lin works primarily with drawing and watercolor. During the Open Studio, visitors will be able to get a firsthand look at their creative process and the projects they are developing in dialogue with the Prague environment.

On Saturday, September 26, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, there will be a guided tour of the exhibition Third Landscape with Vladimír Houdek and curator Filip Kazdain the C.0 HYB4 Gallery.
From 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, it will be followed by a Cocktail Network Event in the A.1 HYB4 Art Studios. s Jive Lau Ho-Fai a Mari Liew Yu-Lin, which will offer a space for informal meetings with artists and connect the Prague and Hong Kong art communities.

Open Studios Day and additional exhibition program
With the start of the new semester on October 1st, the studios of HYB4 Art Studios will open their doors as part of Open Studios Day, and a guided tour of the exhibition will take place Third Landscape with Vladimír Houdek.
From November 7 to December 19, 2026, the C.0 HYB4 Gallery will continue its autumn program with a new exhibition by Martina Zetová: We Are All the Same Age.
