Hybrid Sessions is a monthly series at Kampus Hybernská. We feature an opening improvised duo set with two musicians coming from different backgrounds to form a new constellation. Afterwards, we host a jam session open to all musicians, regardless of their background. We want to create an open environment where musicians feel free to be creative in the moment, nothing is predetermined and the only expectation is a high level of presence. A basic backline is provided. Additionaly we’re open for people to suggest the line up so it doesn’t have to be currated by us anymore. We want to keep Hybrid Sessions being a platform forexperimenting so please: no already existing bands.
This time, flutist Andrea La Rose and pianist Jonas Cambien will perform.
- Andrea La Rose plays flutes big and small, as well as lots of little whistley things. She improvises (mostly in the free improv tradition) and composes (mostly in the quirky chamber music tradition). She teaches music and has a small obsession with two-chord songs. Living in Prague since 2015, she is heading back to the USA in July.
- Jonas Cambien (b.1985) is a Belgian/Norwegian pianist, composer and improviser active in jazz, improvised and contemporary music. With a sollid background in classical and contemporary music, but as much a child of Oslo's freejazz and improvised music scene, his style passes seamlessly from Cecil Taylor to Ligeti, creating his own language on the way. Most noted for leading his own trio, featuring André Roligheten on reeds, and Andreas Wildhagen on drums, Cambien has performed on major stages and jazzfestivals in Norway and abroad, and has released three albums with this trio on the Portuguese label Clean Feed.
