Residency
Meet the artists currently creating at HYB4 Art Studios. Each of them is developing their own unique body of work and contributing to the diverse and inspiring community emerging at Kampus Hybernská.
JAN SLANINA
Jan Slanina is a visual artist focused on reflecting upon pressing contemporary issues, particularly the phenomena of labor, technologization, and their social and political impacts. Formally, he works primarily with the language of digital technology, installation, and objects. A characteristic element is his use of neon, which he designs and manufactures entirely himself for his pieces. Here, light and kinetic effects serve not merely as aesthetic elements, but as metaphors for the instability of the systems upon which contemporary society is built.
MATĚJ JANÁK
Matěj Janák’s work is influenced by graffiti and stems primarily from an exploration of subjective life experiences, which he translates into various contexts and media. Janák does not limit himself to painting; he engages with concepts, objects, and audiovisual work, drawing content from symbols associated with everyday life experiences and the internal processes of the mind as he navigates and reconciles with them.
JURA PIRŠČ
Jura Piršč focuses his work on themes of nostalgia, communication, and interpersonal relationships across generations. Through a visual language, he seeks ways to capture the fleeting nature of childhood and pass on personal and collective memories. His work exists at the intersection of sculpture and installation, utilizing historical echoes to connect contemporary questions of individuality, personal expression, and the individual's relationship to the broader social environment.
ADÉLA HOLEŠOVÁ
In her work, she connects various materials through textiles and experimental knitting techniques. She views textiles as a medium that brings objects to life, softening their hardness and disrupting their rigid structures. Her creative process is largely intuitive and influenced by the subconscious, leading to the emergence of organic forms that reflect both inner experiences and unconscious impulses.
A central theme of her work is water, which carries multi-layered symbolism ranging from psychological and emotional dimensions to ecological and social contexts. Water acts as a connecting element between humanity and the landscape, while also reflecting our relationship with the natural environment and how we utilize it.
PAUL TUTTAS AND LAURA HÉDERVÁRI
Atelier Pala is a printmaking studio run by Laura Hédervári and Paul Tuttas, focusing on original graphic art and experimental print techniques. Together, they provide a space for creating, sharing, and exploring processes such as linocut, etching, and woodcut. Laura specializes in intaglio printing, drawing inspiration from everyday situations. Paul works primarily with woodcut and material printing, with his work rooted in nature and his personal relationship with the landscape. The studio bridges traditional printmaking techniques with an experimental approach to imagery.
MONIKA COLLECTIVE
Monika is a collective identity formed primarily (though not exclusively) by the bodies of Anna Chrtková, Matyáš Grimmich, and Karolína Schön. It embodies an escape from the cycle of work, fatigue, work, and even greater fatigue. It is a chronicle of crises, bruised by extractive capitalism and exhausted by the constant chase for money, housing, artistic visibility, mental health, recognition, feeling good, a better world, and working conditions. The collective was formed as training for a future where it will be necessary to rethink individualism in favor of post-capitalist arrangements. Their work combines text, image, video, objects, and performance.
DOMINIC HAFNER
Dominic Hafner’s artistic practice moves between drawing, painting, and living sculpture. His work focuses on artistic processes that evolve through interaction with materials, space, and participants. He combines experimental and interdisciplinary approaches, often creating participatory situations that involve other artists and viewers, thereby blurring the traditional boundaries between author, work, and audience.
JITKA PETRÁŠOVÁ
Jitka Petrášová works with figurative painting and printmaking. Her work is based on personal experience and memories—things that are close to her, whether in a positive or negative sense. Figures in motion, athletes, neighbors, and anonymous everyday characters become carriers of emotion, humor, and hidden tension on her canvases. She works intuitively, using bold color contrasts and a gestural style, believing that the best results come naturally and cannot be forced.
JAN VYTISKA
In his painting, artist Jan Vytiska draws on motifs of folklore, folk religiosity, and folk horror aesthetics. He grew up in the Valašsko region, where rituals, masks, faith, and superstitions are a natural part of both the landscape and collective memory. He transforms these elements into a contemporary visual language. He is interested in the darkness hidden within tradition: characters such as the devil, the saint, the demon, or anonymous figures in folk costumes become carriers of the tension between faith and fear, the sacred and the grotesque. He does not perceive folklore as nostalgia, but as a living, changing organism that carries both ritual power and the unsettling potential of myth. He creates images that oscillate between icon and nocturnal vision, between tradition and its contemporary reinterpretation.
PHILA PRIMUS
Another new resident at HYB4 Art Studios is also the multimedia artist, poet, and lyricist Phila Primus. Through her visual works, she conveys a sense of heightened consciousness connected to biological, temporal, physical, social, linguistic, and symbolic orders. In her work, the body and consciousness become the starting point for a visual exploration of the unconscious and the relationship between freedom and determinism—whether genetic, cultural, personal, or social. Her work follows the tradition of surrealism, revealing the absurdity of reality through contemplation, imagination, and reflection.
VIKTORIIA TYMONOVA
The artist is part of the Futures Photography platform and a winner of the Carte Blanche Étudiants (from Paris Photo). Viktoriia has participated in photography festivals such as the Fotograf Zone Festival (Czech Republic), OFF Bratislava (Slovakia), Circulation(s), and Paris Photo (France).
Her work explores the intersection of the magical, the conspiratorial, the paranormal, and the inexplicable, drawing from family stories and personal experience. A key motif in her practice is the tension between reality and fiction, history and alternative history, as well as navigating the boundary between seriousness and irony.
OPEN CALL RESIDENT
The final studio space will be awarded through a selection process organized by Open Studios Art Hub. Open Call: The Open Studios Prague Incubator is the perfect springboard for recent Master’s graduates in fine arts to develop their professional practice. The selected resident will receive 13 months in a Kampus Hybernská studio free of charge. Apply by July 31, 2026. openstudios.cz
